02/28/2008 - Winter Haven, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Cleveland Indians have signed pitcher Fausto Carmona and 12 others to one-year contracts, the club announced Thursday.

Carmona, 24, made 32 starts for the Indians in 2007, posting a 19-8 record with a 3.06 earned run average in 215 innings, just one year after a disastrous rookie campaign that saw him record a 1-10 mark and a 5.42 ERA.

Among the other players signed were infielder Asdrubal Cabrera, outfielder Franklin Gutierrez and reliever Rafael Perez.

Cabrera hit .283 with three home runs and 22 runs batted in after making his major league debut in August 2007, and is expected to step into the starting role at second base this season.

Gutierrez compiled a .266 batting average, 13 home runs and 36 RBI as part of Cleveland's outfield platoon.

Perez came on as one of Cleveland's most reliable options out of the bullpen, as the left-hander posted a 1-2 record and a 1.78 ERA in 60.2 innings over 44 relief appearances in 2007.

In addition, the Indians also agreed to terms with infielders Michael Aubrey, Josh Barfield and Andy Marte; pitchers Scott Lewis, Adam Miller, Edward Mujica, Tony Sipp, and Jeremy Sowers; and catcher Wyatt Toregas.
