Guillen out of lineup on first day with Giants

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -Newly acquired Jose Guillen is not in the starting lineup on his first day with the San Francisco Giants.

Guillen was acquired on Friday in a trade with Kansas City for a player to be named. He joined his new team Saturday but manager Bruce Bochy says he wants to give his new outfielder a day to get acclimated. Guillen is available to come off the bench and is slated to start Sunday's series finale against San Diego.

Guillen says he is excited to go from the last-place Royals to a team in the thick of the pennant race. The Giants enter the day 3 1/2 games behind San Diego in the NL West and on top of the wild-card standings.

The Giants optioned infielder Emmanuel Burriss to Triple-A Fresno to make room for Guillen.Copyright © 2005 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
